Week 5: Thinking Through a Thesis Statement 
You've spent a few weeks thinking about your topic, position, goal, and audience. You have also started researching your topic. Share your progress with your classmates and professor for feedback.
Step 1: Complete your webtext and then share the thesis statement you have drafted and evaluate your work.
  • Does it tell the reader what your essay is about? Why or why not?
  • Does it communicate your position? Why or why not?
  • Does it help your readers understand what ideas your paper will discuss to support your position? Why or why not?












Step 2: Review your peers' thesis statement posts. Help one or more classmates improve their working thesis statement by asking helpful questions or making suggestions. Below are sample questions you could ask.
  • Some of these ideas seem fuzzy to me. What words can you use to make it clearer?
  • Are your reasons based on research or opinions? What sources did you use?
  • This is an interesting topic, but what are you trying to convince me to believe?
